Important Account Notice - Cash App Investing
UPDATE: Block Inc. and Cash App Investing LLC have reached a settlement of the Salinas, Washington and Gordon class action.
Our security team recently determined that a former employee downloaded certain Cash App Investing reports that contained some customer information. While this employee had regular access to these reports as part of their past job responsibilities, in this instance these reports were accessed without permission after their employment ended.
The reports did not include usernames or passwords, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, payment card information, addresses, bank account information, or any other personally identifiable information. They also did not include any security code, access code, or password used to access your Cash App account.
Upon discovery, we took steps to remediate this issue and launched an investigation. We notified law enforcement. In addition, we continue to review and strengthen administrative and technical safeguards to protect your information.
Was my information accessed?
If you were impacted, a notification was sent to you by email or by physical mail to the address associated with your Cash App Investing account. If you were impacted and have not yet received a notification you can expect to receive one.
For information related to your account, please refer to the notification you received from Cash App Investing.
What information was accessed?
The information in the reports included full name and brokerage account number (this is the unique identification number associated with a customer’s stock activity on Cash App Investing), and for some customers also included brokerage portfolio value, brokerage portfolio holdings, and/or stock trading activity for one trading day.
What is a brokerage account? How is it related to my bank account information?
A brokerage account is an investment account that allows an investor to buy and sell securities (e.g., stocks). A Cash App Investing account is not your Cash App Balance or linked bank accounts, and your Cash App Investing account number is not the same as your Cash App account number. Cash App Investing’s brokerage accounts are for securities transactions only (not cash transactions).
Do I need to take any action to secure my account?
Cash App knows how these reports were accessed, and we have taken steps to protect the security and privacy of your information.
The reports did not include usernames or passwords, Social Security numbers, date of birth, payment card information, addresses, bank account information, or any other personally identifiable information. They also did not include any security code, access code, or password used to access your Cash App account. Other Cash App products and features were not impacted.
Were other Cash App products impacted?
The downloaded reports were limited to Cash App Investing customers and accounts only and were separate from other Cash App systems.
Cash App Investing is a part of Cash App’s business and allows customers to buy and sell stocks through Cash App.
We are in the process of notifying current and former Cash App Investing customers whose data was impacted.
What are you doing to protect customers?
Upon discovery, we took steps to remediate this issue and launched an investigation. We have reviewed and are strengthening administrative and technical safeguards and we continue to enhance our system security.
