B-Notices from Cash App

The IRS requires Cash App to issue tax forms to certain customers depending on what kind of transactions were processed in the account. We issue Form 1099-Bs for Bitcoin and/or Stock activity and Form 1099-Ks for Cash App for Business accounts.

What is a B-Notice?

The IRS requires Cash App to issue a First B-Notice if the tax identification number (TIN) and taxpayer name combination reported on your Form 1099-K or Form 1099-B does not match IRS records. Cash App uses the information you submitted when you created your account, including your Legal Name and TIN, to report to the IRS.

Cash App is required to send a Second B-Notice if we don’t receive a response to the First B-Notice or if the information is still incorrect per the IRS.

How do I respond to my B-Notice?

For a First B-Notice, you will need to complete and submit a Form W-9 electronically to Cash App by the due date in the letter you received.

If we don’t receive a completed and signed electronic Form W-9 by the due date in your letter, your Cash App account features for Stocks, Bitcoin, or Cash App for Business will be restricted.

Depending on which tax form you received, head to the appropriate website below to update your information:

Form 1099-B

Form 1099-K

If you received a tax form to report your Bitcoin or Stock activity, update your information at cash.app/individual-tax-information.

If you received a tax form to report your Cash App for Business payments, update your information at cash.app/tax-information. You can only log into your Cash App for Business account when accessing the link.

If you’ve received a Second B-Notice, you will need to reach out to the Cash App Support team here. They will need to verify certain documentation in order to update your taxpayer information.
