As part of our efforts to help protect your account, we close accounts that haven’t been used in more than two years if they don’t have money in them.

Before we close an inactive account, we always do our best to notify you so you have the opportunity to keep your $cashtag and account open if you want to.

Inactive accounts

If you don’t use your Cash App account for more than two years and it doesn’t have money in it, we consider it inactive and it may be closed.

How to keep your account active

If you receive a notification that your account is set to close due to inactivity, log in to your account before the date it’s set to close. That will keep it open.

When you log in, you’ll receive a confirmation in the app, as well as an email letting you know that your account is active again.

On a regular basis, you can keep your Cash App account active by using it to add, send, or receive money, buy or sell stocks or bitcoin, or even just logging in.

If your account was closed due to inactivity

If you don’t log in before your account is set to close due to inactivity, we’ll close it. Once your account is closed, your $cashtag is deactivated and you won’t be able to log in anymore.

Unfortunately, you can’t open a closed account, but you can open a new Cash App account if you want to. You’re also able to get a new $cashtag with a new account.

A $cashtag is a unique identifier for individuals and businesses using Cash App.

When an account is closed, whether by your request, or due to inactivity, the account’s $cashtag is deactivated and cannot be reused.

You can access and download a copy of your personal information anytime before your account is closed.

Cash App extends the option to delete personal information to all customers, except within certain exceptions the law provides.

The fastest way to access past tax documents from a closed account is to request them from the IRS directly. You can submit a request online or by calling them.
