Now in pilot, the new experience helps eligible sole proprietors accept peer-to-peer payments via their personal Cash App account and manage their earnings in one place, without fees
September 10, 2026: Cash App is rolling out a simpler way for eligible sole proprietors to earn and track income through their personal Cash App account. Currently in pilot, the new experience does not require a separate business account and has no fees, so sellers can keep more of what they earn.
Eligible sole proprietors who want to sell goods and services on Cash App can enroll in the earning experience from their personal account. Once enrolled, they can tag payers as customers and track all of their earnings within a dedicated Earnings hub. There are no fees for eligible goods and services payments within this new experience for personal Cash App accounts. In alignment with IRS reporting requirements, unless a seller receives more than $20,000 and completes more than 200 transactions in earnings in a calendar year, Cash App will not issue a Form 1099-K.
Built for Modern Earners
Many Americans today are earning outside of a traditional paycheck, and Cash App has a unique view into this shift. Modern Earners are a significant share of Cash App’s customer base, with 70 percent of Cash App monthly actives earning income via freelancing, content creation, hourly work, gig work, and more. These customers manage an average of 2.7 payment channels to get paid (nearly double the salaried worker average), underscoring the need for tools to easily track scattered income streams. Cash App is building simple, easy-to-use solutions that better match Modern Earners’ financial lives and enable them to save, spend, and manage their money in one place.
"Millions of people are earning income in new and more flexible ways, and they deserve tools that keep up with them," said Owen Jennings, Executive Officer and Head of Business at Block. "Cash App is making it easier for Modern Earners to get paid and manage their money in one place, so they can spend less time managing scattered income streams and more time focusing on their craft and customers."
The experience is currently in pilot for select eligible customers, with plans to expand access over time.
