Online banking with Cash AppOnline banking basics

What bank is Cash App?

Cash App is a financial services platform, not a bank. Whether you want to send, spend, bank, save, or invest, you can do it with Cash App. Cash App provides many services, like direct deposit and offers, while other products and services, like debit cards, are provided by partner banks and service providers.

Do I need a bank account to use Cash App?

No, you don't need a bank account to create a Cash App account or add money to your Cash balance.

There are a number of ways to send and receive money through Cash App if you don't have a bank account. When you have a Cash App Card, you can deposit paychecks, tax returns, and more to your Cash balance using your account and routing numbers. If you have paper money, you can make deposits into your Cash balance at participating retailers.

How do I get a free Cash App Card?

You can order a Cash App Card directly in the app. It’s a free to order, customizable debit card that you can use to spend your Cash balance. It can be used where Visa is accepted, both online and in stores. The black and white cards are free. Premium cards, like the metal card, are subject to a fee.

Your Cash App Card isn't connected to your personal debit card or bank account. When you make a withdrawal from your Cash balance, it transfers money to your debit card or bank account.

If you’re 18 or older, you can order a Cash App Card. If you’re between 13 and 17, you can order a Cash App Card with a sponsored account. After you order a card, it should arrive within 10 business days. Your Cash App Card can be used as soon as you order it by adding it to Apple Pay and Google Pay, or by using your virtual card on the Card tab.

How does direct deposit work with Cash App?

You can deposit paychecks, tax returns, and more to your Cash balance using your account and routing number. You can receive up to $25,000 per direct deposit, and up to $50,000 in a 24-hour period.

Cash App makes direct deposits available as soon as they are received, up to two days earlier than many banks. Depending on your employer, your first deposit may take longer to become available.

Set up direct deposit

Use direct deposit to get paychecks automatically deposited into Cash App. You can complete setup using your account and routing numbers, or search for your employer or payroll provider in the app.

Missing direct deposit?

Direct deposits can take between 1 to 5 business days to arrive from the scheduled arrival date.

Can anyone track my activity in Cash App?

Your activity with Cash App is only visible to you. If you're under 18, your sponsor can view your activity in monthly statements. For more information about what data Cash App collects, stores, and shares, review the Cash App Privacy Notice.

How does Cash App keep my money safe?

Cash App uses encryption and fraud detection technology to make sure your data and money is secure. Any information you submit is encrypted and sent to our servers securely, regardless of whether you're using a public or private Wi-Fi connection or data service.

What does ATM stand for?

ATM stands for automated teller machine. ATMs make it easy to access money and manage your bank account. You can use it to check your account balances, withdraw and deposit money, and more.

What is a direct deposit?

A direct deposit is an automated transfer of payment directly to a recipient’s checking or savings account. It eliminates the need for physical checks or having to visit a bank.

What is payroll?

Payroll is the process of compensating a company’s employees in the form of checks and direct deposits.

What is a routing number?

A routing number is a 9-digit number used by financial institutions to identify and locate accounts.

What does withdraw mean?

A withdrawal is the removal of cash from an account. It’s one of the most common actions people make at an ATM.

What's online banking?

With online banking, also referred to as internet banking, you can access and manage your accounts through a secure website or mobile app without visiting a physical bank branch. There are several key features to online banking like checking your balance, transferring money, paying bills, and more that you can access from a phone, tablet, or computer.
