Is buying stock on Cash App safe?

Cash App is a member of SIPC. Securities in your account are protected up to $500,000. For details, please see www.sipc.org.  SIPC does not cover investment losses in customer accounts due to market fluctuation. Investing involves risk and you may lose money.

Cash App Investing does not hold your proceeds from the sale of stocks or ETFs. You authorize that proceeds from sale of stocks or ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) to be automatically transferred to your Cash balance, which is not SIPC-protected. How do I buy and sell stock on Cash App?

You can buy stocks and ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds) with Cash App. First, go to the Stocks section of the app, search for a company name or ticker symbol, and then choose how much of the stock you want to buy. You can choose a preset amount or a custom amount you enter. 

Stocks can be purchased using the funds in your Cash balance. If you don't have enough funds available, the remaining amount will be debited from your linked debit card.

Once the order is completed, you can view your investments by going to the Money tab and tapping Stocks.

Stock purchases or sales can be scheduled 24/7. However, orders will only be placed during market hours. The U.S. stock market is open Monday–Friday during the following hours: Eastern time: 9:30 AM - 4 PM Central time: 8:30 AM - 3 PM Mountain time: 7:30 AM – 2 PM Pacific time: 6:30 AM – 1 PM.

If you want to sell stocks or ETFs using Cash App, go to the stocks you own on Cash App, select the company whose stock you want to sell, and then choose or enter how much of the stock you want to sell.

The amount of your sale net any applicable fees will be automatically deposited into your Cash balance. Depending on market activity, sales proceeds may take up to 1 business day to be deposited in your Cash balance.

What are fractional shares, and how do I buy them?

Fractional shares are less than one whole share of a company. With Cash App, you can buy fractional shares of a company’s stock with as little as $1.

First, search for a company name or ticker symbol in Cash App, then choose how much of the stock you want to buy, either from a preset amount or a custom amount you enter.

Does Cash App charge a commission fee?

No, Cash App doesn’t charge commission fees when you buy or sell stocks or exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Many brokerage accounts may charge commission fees. With Cash App, it’s free to open an account, and we don’t have minimum balance requirements or charge commission fees.

While Cash App doesn’t charge any fees per trade, there may be fees assessed that are required by government agencies, such as the SEC. We’ll disclose these fees prior to your confirmation of a trade, and they will be listed in the trade confirmation.

How to send bitcoin with Cash App?

With Cash App, it is fast and easy to send bitcoin to a friend or another bitcoin wallet. First, go to the Money tab on Cash App and tap Bitcoin, then tap the arrows and select Send.

How does Cash App keep my account safe from fraud?

Cash App uses encryption and fraud detection technology to help keep your data and money secure. Any information you submit is encrypted and sent to our servers securely, regardless of whether you're using a public or private Wi-Fi connection or data service.

How do I invest in stocks with Cash App?

Cash App makes it easy to invest in your favorite companies with as little as $1. You can choose to buy from a variety of stocks and ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds).

Just go to the Stocks section on Cash App and search for a company or ticker symbol. Next, choose how much of the stock you want to buy, either a preset or a custom amount, and then complete your purchase.

You can also use the Round Up feature to invest your spare change from purchases into stocks automatically when you pay with your Cash App Card.

What are commission fees?

Some brokerage firms charge a fee in exchange for their services to help you buy or sell stocks. Cash App doesn't charge commission fees.

What are dividends?

Dividends are payments made in cash or in shares by certain companies.

What are ETFs?

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are bundles of multiple stocks or other investments traded as one. These bundles are selected from parts of the market and may include stocks from certain industries or market indexes.
