Have questions?

We’ve rounded up some info on the government stimulus payments. Get answers to your top questions and check back for updates.

  • Will I get a stimulus payment?

Most Americans will be eligible to receive a third stimulus payment. If you got a $600 payment last round and your income hasn’t changed much, then you’ll most likely get another payment.

The government decides who gets payments based on how much money they earn in a year, as reported on their tax returns.

People who make less than $75,000 will get $1400.

Couples who file joint tax returns and together make under $150,000 will get $2800.

  • When will I get the stimulus payment?

Payments are expected to go out starting in mid-March 2021, and it’ll take about 3-6 weeks to reach most people.

Keep checking this page for updates on exact timing.

You can also go to this IRS Portal to track your stimulus payment.

  • How will I get the money?

The government is sending stimulus payments through direct deposits, prepaid debit cards, and paper checks in the mail.

If you’ve already filed your 2020 tax return, then the government will send your stimulus payment in the same way that you asked to receive your tax refund.

If you have not yet filed your 2020 tax return:

You’ll likely get this stimulus payment in the same way the last ones were sent to you (if you were eligible to receive those).

If you received your 2019 tax refund as a paper check or prepaid debit card, you can go to this IRS Portal to update your banking info with the government and get your payment as a direct deposit into your account. Direct deposits are always faster, and if you use Cash App, you’ll get the money 2 days earlier than you would with most banks.

  • Why is the government giving out money?

Since the onset of COVID-19, the US government has tried to address the financial hardships that the pandemic has caused for many Americans by providing them with stimulus payments. The government sent $1200 payments in Spring 2020 and $600 payments in January 2021. This is the latest round of stimulus payments coming out of a landmark $1.9 trillion relief bill. Most Americans will receive $1400 as part of this legislation.

  • What else is in the Covid relief bill?

    A lot.

In addition to the $1400 stimulus payments, here are few things that will impact most Americans:

    - Federal unemployment benefits of $300 weekly are extended through September 6, 2021. These are on top of any state unemployment benefits. (If you set up direct deposit to Cash App, you’ll get payments like these up to 2 days earlier than with most banks.)

    - Child Tax Credit increases to $3600 per child under age 6 and $3000 per child between 6 and 18

    - More funding is approved for coronavirus testing, contact tracing, and vaccine distribution.

The bill also provides aid to state and local governments, grants for restaurants and bars that were impacted by the pandemic, food benefits for school-age children, emergency rental and mortgage assistance, and funds for schools and child care providers.
