Common questions

What is a sponsored account?

A sponsored account allows anyone age 13-17 to use Cash App with approval from an eligible parent or guardian. It's free to sign up.

What can I do with a sponsored account?

You can get access to financial tools like Cash App Card and investing, while your sponsor can still have control over how you’re using your money.

What controls does a sponsor have?

Sponsors are the owners for the accounts they approve. They can see balances, monthly statements and real-time transactions. They can also manage permissions on investing and Cash App Card spending.

Is my Cash balance eligible for FDIC pass-through insurance?

If you have a Sponsored Account, or if you sponsor one or more Sponsored Accounts, your Cash App Balance and your Savings Balance are eligible for FDIC pass-through insurance through Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., Sutton Bank, and/or The Bancorp Bank, Members FDIC, for up to $250,000 per customer when aggregated with all other deposits held in the same legal capacity at each bank, if certain conditions are met. See the Cash App Terms of Service for more details.***

Cash App is a financial services platform, and not an FDIC-insured bank. Prepaid debit cards issued by Sutton Bank, Member FDIC. Cash App Visa® Debit Flex Cards issued by Sutton Bank, Member FDIC, and The Bancorp Bank, N.A., pursuant to a license from Visa U.S.A. Inc.

How do I keep my account safe from fraud?

It’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with common scams, report phishing attempts, and only send money to people you trust. Make sure to always double check recipient information before sending a payment.

How do I get a debit card at 13?

If a parent or guardian invites you to use Cash App with a sponsored account, you can get a Cash App Card. It’s a customizable debit card you design. Your sponsor supervises your account and can set up limits, allowance, and choose which features you have access to.

Is Cash App safe from fraud for teens?

Cash App is a great place for teens to learn about finances with the supervision of a parent or guardian. As the sponsors of the account, parents and guardians have a number of tools they can use to monitor and control the use of the sponsored account. Sponsors control and decide which features the teens have access to and can choose to receive notifications of their child’s activity, among other controls. Additionally, all other security features of Cash App apply to sponsored accounts.
